Anies Baswedan's Pride JIEC Track Anies Baswedan Worried About Flooding If It Rains Heavy, Formula E Committee Admits It Has Experience
JAKARTA - Ahead of the Formula E event in Jakarta, June 4, there are concerns due to weather uncertainty. As is well known, Indonesia, especially Jakarta, has been experiencing frequent rains and strong winds lately.
However, the Formula E Operation (FEO) team guarantees the race will go according to plan. They emphasized that there had been anticipation if at any time unexpected weather came.
"We are preparing various plans and mitigations to deal with various weather conditions," said FEO Safety Health and Environment (HSE) Consultant Richard Bate in a statement received on Tuesday, May 31.
The biggest concern for racing in Jakarta is if it rains heavily on the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) Ancol, North Jakarta. If that happens, the circuit will most likely be disrupted with puddles.
However, Bate made sure that the dreaded puddle wouldn't happen. This is because the Formula E track in Jakarta already has a very well designed drainage system so that water can seep in quickly.
"We've been through a lot of races in various countries of the world, with various seasons. So regarding situations such as weather, we are ready to accommodate according to the circumstances," he said.
In addition, the organizers also prepared anticipation for spectators who came directly to the stands. If the weather is extreme like a hurricane, the audience will be mobilized to leave their place.
This fear for the audience arose after a few days ago a hurricane had damaged the roof of the stands. Even though it has been renovated again, it is possible that a similar incident could occur on the D day.
"This process is the same as in other events, for example at Mandalika. This is no different. So, we are very ready," continued Bate.
The Formula E race in Jakarta will take place at the Jakarta International Circuit Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
