Surakarta City Government Beware Of Monkey Smallpox

SOLO - The Surakarta City Government has begun to be aware of the emergence of monkeypox which is currently infecting a number of countries.

Head of the Surakarta City Health Service (DKK) Siti Wahyuningsih said the government had begun to actively disseminate information to the public regarding this disease.

The socialization was carried out both through social media and through health facilities (faskes) under the Surakarta City Government.

He also asked hospitals and health centers to immediately report any such cases. However, he confirmed that until now there have been no incoming reports related to monkeypox.

"However, we continue to activate surveillance as an anticipatory measure. If there is such a disease, immediately report it to the puskesmas or department. We will definitely carry out an investigation," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, May 30.

Meanwhile, according to him, the emergence of new diseases is usually due to environmental factors and high mobility so that transmission can occur during interactions with individuals.

"This disease can be transmitted through the bite of an infected animal, or the animal is infected, then consumed but not cooked properly," he said.

Related to this, the Solo Health Office appealed to the public to remain careful and be aware of this new disease.

"The public needs to be vigilant, on the other hand we also continue to provide education to anticipate its spread," he said.
