The Flood Height Of The Semarang Rob Reaches 2 Meters 10 Cm, Fadli Zon: Hopefully It Will Recede Soon

JAKARTA - Tidal flood or tidal water from the sea hit the coastal area of Semarang, Central Java. Gerindra Party politician Fadli Zon hopes that the disaster, which was exacerbated by the broken embankment, will soon subside.

"Hopefully the tidal flood in Semarang and its surroundings will recede soon," said Fadli on his Twitter account, @fadlizon, Tuesday, May 24.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that this tidal flood will last until May 25, 2022.

Not only in Semarang, the BMKG in its prediction on May 13 has estimated the potential for tidal flooding to hit the Genuk Semarang-Demak Highway, Karang Tengah Beach, Demak, Rembang Beach, and the coast of East Java.

Tidal flood predictions also occur on the coast of Tegal Beach, Wonokerto-Pekalongan, Sari-Pekalongan Beach, Batang Beach, Tawang Kendal Beach.

"In addition to the rainfall factor in several areas, high waves in the Java Sea reaching 1.25-2.5 meters also have an impact on increasing tidal flooding in the area," said Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center Eko Prasetyo in a written statement, Tuesday 24 May.

Separately, Spokesperson for the PUPR Ministry Endra S. Atmawidjaja said that his party had taken emergency measures to respond to tidal flooding in Semarang and the North Coast of Java.

One of them is by taking an inventory of the embankments that run off and if there are any that break then geobags/jumbo bags are installed as temporary embankments that are strong enough to hold water.

Head of Pemali River Basin Center (BBWS) Juana Muhammad Adek Rizaldi as a team from the Ministry of PUPR in the region, denied that tidal flooding, especially in Semarang, was caused by damage to tidal embankment infrastructure. He said the tidal flood occurred because of high tides.

According to Adek, the current condition of the tidal flood, according to the Tanjung Emas Maritime Meteorological Station, Semarang, has decreased from tidal hydrological data, sea level height at 15.00 WIB reached 2 meters 10 cm, or +210 cm above sea level.

"Alhamdulillah, since last night at 22.00 WIB, the water level is at +162 cm above sea level and has shown a downward trend," concluded Adek.
