Take A Peek At The New Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chipset, The Current Prima Donna!

JAKARTA - Qualcomm has just launched the latest version of its flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This new chipset promises a modest increase in speed and better power savings than the previous series.

The previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was never slow in terms of performance, but the heat and power usage are far from optimal which is the main problem. Now, with the arrival of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the solution.

According to Qualcomm, the performance of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU has 10 percent higher performance, while the power gets a significant increase of about 30 percent more efficient.

Although the core configuration and architecture are the same as before, the peak ARM Cortex-X2 core can now reach 3.2 GHz. This figure matches the top speed of the Snapdragon 870 in 2021.

The Core 3 x ARM Cortex-A710 gets an increase to 2.75 GHz, while the Cortex-A510 is upgraded to 2.0 GHz. In comparison, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 only has clock speeds of 3.0 GHz, 2.5 GHz, and 1.8 GHz.

Likewise, GPUs run at 10 percent higher frequencies while reducing power usage by up to 30 percent. Furthermore, the AI engine now also has a 20 percent better performance per Watt ratio. Wireless modems have become more efficient.

Overall, efficiency at the SoC level has increased by 15 percent. That way, phones using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 can stream video for 1 hour 30 minutes longer than those using the old chip.

In terms of light use, the difference easily increases to almost 6 hours.

Despite the speed, efficiency, and different manufacturers, the hardware on this new chip is basically the same as its predecessor. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

The display can handle QHD+ at up to 144 Hz or 4K at 60 Hz, complete with 10-bit rendering, and HDR 10+ support.

The connectivity comes from the Snapdragon X65 model with a theoretical peak speed of 10 Gbps. the chip also supports 6/6E Wi-Fi up to 3.6 GHz. There's also Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity support with lossless aptX support and Bluetooth LE audio.

This powerful chipset also has a triple 18-bit Spectra ISP that can handle sensors up to 200MP and 8K video capture at 30fps (4K at 120fps).

Plus image processing tricks like multi-frame and staggered/DoL HDR noise reduction, a bokeh engine, and support for HLG, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision formats.

Finally, the phones that will be equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will be coming from Q3 this year, between July and September. Unlike previous generations, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will appear on more smartphones.

Because this chipset has many advantages, not a few mobile phone manufacturers have prepared their products for the new world of competition.

Such as ASUS, Black Shark, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, and Nubia. In addition, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi with their "Ultra" flagships. Even Vivo, ZTE, and OSOM are preparing smartphones with these new chips.

According to leaks circulating, Samsung is also preparing a variant of its new folding phone that embeds this Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This was reported by GSM Arena, Sunday, May 22.
