Jaya Suprana Created By Haru Punakawan's Quartet After 12 Years Of Not Meeting

JAKARTA - Jaya Suprana was moved when three members of the Punakawan Quartet suddenly appeared in the meeting room of the Jaya Suprana School of Performing Art located on the floor of the LG Mall of Indonesia Jakarta, Friday, May 20.

It seems that Jaya Suprana has not met and performed with members of the Punakawan Quartet for 12 years. Today's meeting was an initiative of Jaya Suprana's wife, Aylawati Sarwono, who wanted to make a surprise gift for her beloved husband.

"Lastly they played together at the Ritz Carlton Hotel," said Aylawati Sarwono, who likes to paint and dance.

The members of the Punakawan Quartet consist of musicians who each have talents, as Jaya Suprana admitted after being asked to perform together to play 8 folk songs.

Jaya Suprana himself is a composer and pianist, where he is the first pianist in the world who specializes in performing piano-recitals with an all Indonesian music composition repertoire.

Meanwhile, Junaidi Muslim is a reliable percussionist who is able to play percussion instruments in various ways, from swiping, hitting, shaking to pitting.

Another punakawan, Jubing Kristianto, is a guitarist who has won 4 times the Indonesian Guitar Festival and the winner of the Distinguished Award at the Asian Guitar Festival in Hong Kong. He is also the author of Guitarpedia, the world's first guitar encyclopedia in Indonesian.

The last member of the Punakawan Quartet is Heru Kusnadi, a bass guitarist who has eaten the salt of the recording studio with an astute bass strumming ability.

"After 12 years of not seeing each other, I really miss you, but we finally got to meet. Our culture must continue and be developed," said Junaidi Muslima in a written statement.

He said that there was an inner satisfaction when playing traditional songs from Sabang Merauke with the Punakawan Quarter. And he really wants the Punakawan Quarter to be revived.

"Hopefully in the future the clown quartet can still exist," hoped Junaidi, who is familiarly called Juned.

After appearing together on stage, Jaya Suprana was surprised by Heru Kusnadi. "Pak Jaya, this is my daughter who used to be carried by you, and always accompanied us everywhere," said Heru, laughing.

Hearing this confession, Jaya Suprana looked surprised and filled with tears. "Today I was given two surprises," said Jaya.
