North Sumatra Police Alert Personnel On Disaster-Prone Paths

MEDAN - The Traffic Directorate of the North Sumatra Police has alerted personnel on disaster-prone tourist routes and the density of drivers for public transport cars, private cars and motorbikes during the May 15-16 long holiday.

"The tourist route that is often crossed by motorists and is predicted to be congested is in the Medan-Berastagi area, North Sumatra," said North Sumatra Police Traffic Director Kombes Indra Darmawan Iriyanto as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 13.

Indra said the officers were on alert to anticipate the number of vehicles that were expected to experience congestion on the Medan-Berastagi route during the holiday.

The North Sumatra Police will also be on standby with heavy equipment and tow trucks to speed up the evacuation process in the event of a damaged vehicle or landslide," said the North Sumatra Police Traffic Director.

Previously, the Medan-Berastagi main route, which had previously been cut off due to fallen trees and power poles on Jalan Jamin Ginting KM 29.5, Rambung Baru Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, Wednesday (11/5) was passable.

The Medan Polrestabes, Pancur Batu Police, local residents and assisted by heavy equipment from the Medan City Government, Tuesday (10/5) night worked hard to evacuate, finally succeeded in clearing trees that were blocking the road so that traffic flow returned smoothly.

Kasatlantas Polrestabes Medan AKBP Sonny W Siregar explained that the fallen tree was caused by a tornado that hit Rambung Baru Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency.

Sonny said the incident also resulted in a power pole collapsing and blocking the road, causing traffic jams.

"One unit of a power pole made of concrete fell across the Medan-Berastagi public highway," he said.
