South Sulawesi Governor Prepares North Luwu To Become South Sulawesi's New Economic Axis

MAKASSAR - Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman pushed North Luwu Regency to become the new economic axis in South Sulawesi.

Andi Sudirman said, North Luwu is an extraordinary area because it has the gift of fertile land, with abundant water sources and abundant agricultural products.

"The Luwu Raya area is the largest export contributor in South Sulawesi. Nearly 80 percent of South Sulawesi's exports come from Luwu Raya. Most of them are from North Luwu," he said at a plenary session for the 23rd anniversary of North Luwu Regency at the North Luwu Regional Representative Council (DPRD) office, reported by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

Several commodities are exported from North Luwu, such as forest products such as wood, cocoa, coffee, and spices.

The youngest governor in Indonesia also continues to encourage people to export, not only mining but also the abundant spices.

“In the past, we were colonized because of spices. Now we are colonizing them by importing the export of spices,” he said.

In addition, the Governor also handed over free seed assistance for 1.000 hectares of agricultural land to farmers in North Luwu Regency.

The seed assistance of 25.000 kg or 25 tons was handed over by the Governor of South Sulawesi to the North Luwu farmer group.

“North Luwu Regency is one of the targets in the food plant seed independent program, especially rice plant seeds. By involving breeder farmers, it will be carried out on a 5-hectare land of breeder farmers," he said.
