PDAM Water In Darmorejo Is Dark Brown In Color, DPRD Surabaya: Please Check, What's The Problem?

JAKARTA - The leadership of the Surabaya City DPRD is following up on complaints from residents in the Darmorejo area, Kota Pahlawan, East Java, regarding the quality of PDAM water in their homes which is cloudy and dark brown in color.

Deputy Chairperson of the Surabaya DPRD, Reni Astuti, said Tuesday, May 10, that this complaint has been experienced for years. They have also reported to the relevant parties but there has been no follow up.

"Knowing this, I immediately visited the residence of the residents in the Darmorejo area on Monday (9/5)," said Reni quoted from Antara.

Even though the village area in Darmorejo is relatively close to the PDAM water treatment plant in the Ngagel area.

"I think this is an input. I ask the PDAM to check this immediately, what is the problem?" he said.

From Reni's observation, there is dirt in the form of small particles in the floating water which makes it even more cloudy.

In fact, the PDAM's current service, he said, has become more widespread and is considered to be quite good. However, he hopes that such conditions are in line with improving water quality which also needs to be considered for consumers.

Water, he continued, is the main need for the community. Such water quality is feared to have an impact on consumer health as well as water cleanliness for PDAM users in the local area.

"Indeed, not all places in Surabaya have dirty (water) quality like this. For the RT area here with a large number of residents. Moreover, there are children, there is a need for mothers. Economically too, for example buying (water) for washing The vegetables also add to the economic burden of the residents," he said

Reni also encouraged related parties to check and provide clarity about the causes of water problems in this area so that residents also receive information related to the problem.

"Ask the PDAM to check it immediately, I have conveyed this condition to the PDAM Director and this afternoon I can get information from residents if the PDAM has come to respond, this must be resolved," he said.

According to information, he said, for their daily water needs, residents rely on PDAM water by first filtering it through existing filters such as gauze for bathing needs.

"As for cooking and consumption such as drinking, residents need to buy water," said Reni Astuti.

One of the residents of Darmorejo RT VII/RW IV Sunarsih said, since using it in the morning, the water flow in his house is cloudy.

"If it flows in the morning it's cloudy, in the afternoon it's pretty clear, but in the afternoon it comes out again (cloudy), at night it's also (cloudy)," he said.

Budiono, Sunarsih's husband, said that at first the water smelled of chlorine but was not dirty, but gradually the water changed color and became cloudy and the smell of chlorine gradually disappeared.

He said similar conditions were also experienced by other residents in the Jagir area.
