Police Secure 1,192 People From The Action To Reject The Job Creation Law In Jakarta, The Majority Of STMs
JAKARTA - Police have arrested 1,192 rioters who are suspected of being members of an anarcho group. They were arrested when they rioted at a demonstration against the Job Creation Act.
Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said that thousands of people were arrested on 7 and 8 October. They were secured before the riot broke out.
"Up to this moment, we have secured 1,192 (people). Before the rioting started, we did raids," Yusri told reporters, Friday, October 9.
Based on data collection, many of them come from outside Jakarta. They deliberately came to the capital to take part in demonstrations and caused chaos.
This is known based on a cellphone examination and information. This is because their cellphones were found inviting them to make trouble at student and labor demonstrations.
"Some of the groups came from several regions such as Purwakarta, Karawang, Bogor, Banten. Those who came to Jakarta were intended to riot," said Yusri.
In fact, most of them are students of the Mechanical Engineering School (STM). But there are also those who are laborers and are students.
"Nearly half are STM students. There are also students and workers, there are also laborers there. But this is not the goal of joining friends whose purpose is to express their opinion against the Job Creation Law," he said.
Previously it was reported that the police recorded that around 34 public facilities were damaged by rioters during a demonstration against the ratification of the Job Creation Law on Thursday, October 8. Dozens of facilities damaged include police posts and bus stops.
"So the total facilities of the police that carried out the destruction and arson by the rioters totaled 18 facilities at the pam post," said Yusri.
