A Teenage Boy Caught By Residents When They Want To Steal A Charity Box At The Petukangan Mosque In South Jakarta

JAKARTA - A teenage boy with the initials NM (17), was arrested by the police on suspicion of stealing a charity box at Musala AL-Istiqomah, on M Saidi street, Petukangan, South Jakarta.

The Head of Pesanggrahan Police, Commissioner of Police Nazirwan, said the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 19, at 23.00 western Indonesia time. The incident began when the perpetrator who came to the prayer room alone intended to pry the charity box at the place of worship.

"However, residents knew what the perpetrators were doing, so they could not take the money from the charity box," said Nazirwan, Wednesday, April 20.

On that occasion, Nazirwan said, the perpetrator did this for the first time and the reason was because of economic demands.

"While it's the first time (doing the action). But we are still investigating again (about his confession). The reason for stealing is because of the economy," he explained.

Nazirwan said that the perpetrator had not been named a suspect because it was still under investigation.

"Still a witness, until now still being investigated. The problem is that it is suspected that he just wanted to experiment. We don't know whether he intends to enter the mosque or not, so we are still investigating," he said.
