Google Maps Adds AR Features As Directions To The Destination Location
JAKARTA - Google added a number of new features to Live View, an augmented reality mode on the Google Maps platform. With this feature that allows users to get information about the destination location from the camera viewfinder of the cellphone.
As a result, users can see the information display of iconic buildings or landmarks visually. As well as information about any distant landmark locations and directions to get there.
"This famous building can include iconic places, such as the Empire State Building in New York and the Pantheon in Rome, and places that are easily recognized, such as tourist attractions," said Google Maps Product Manager Mirko Ranieri, as quoted by The Verge , Tuesday, October 6.
The feature will soon be available on Android and iOS, with support in 25 cities, including Paris, Berlin, London, New York, Rome, San Francisco, Tokyo, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
Another new feature is the ability to immediately enter Live View mode when in a transit position in the middle of a trip, so that users can more easily find out the right direction when at a potentially confusing intersection.
Google has several other additional features for Live View mode, including various locations to view distances to and from friends who share their location on Google Maps. Later these features will arrive in the coming weeks.
