WhatsApp Tries Last Seen Feature For Certain Contacts

JAKARTA - WhatsApp again presents the feature that its users have been waiting for, to hide the Last Seen or Last Seen status for users from certain contacts.

According to a WABetaInfo report, this feature is still in the beta or trial phase. This Last Seen feature lets other users know when someone last opened the app, and can give a hint whether they checked the app without responding to a message.

Now, the user can hide the Last Seen status from everyone, but the user himself cannot see the Last Seen status of others.

There is also an option to set Last Seen status for their contacts only, but users cannot select specific people to find out.

With the presence of this new feature in the trial phase, users will have the option to set the Last Seen status only for their specific contacts, aka they can choose it.

Citing Engadget, Monday, April 18, WABetaInfo got the new feature from WhatsApp iOS beta version 22.9.0.70 with a new "My Contacts Except" option under the Last Seen section of the app's privacy settings.

WABetaInfo says if a user adds someone to the list it also prevents them from seeing their Last Seen status.

Unfortunately, the Last Seen feature does not apply to the about section and profile photo. The feature is currently in beta for iOS and Android, and will hopefully be released to all WhatsApp users globally soon.
