There Are Still Cafes Operating 24 Hours In Medan, DPRD Asks The City Government To React

MEDAN - Medan City Regional Representative Council (DPRD) member Ishaq Abrar Mustafa Tarigan said there was a need for firm efforts to regulate cafe operating hours in Medan. According to him, there are still many stubborn business actors who open their cafes up to 24 hours during Ramadan 2022.

"Here, I judge that there is still a lack of supervision from the Medan City Government and its staff regarding the implementation of the Medan Mayor's SE (Circulature)," said Ishaq in Medan, quoted by Antara, Sunday, April 17.

Whereas according to the SE of the Mayor of Medan No.442.3/4139 concerning the implementation of the restriction on community activities (PPKM) level 1 for the City of Medan, the eighth point states that the cafe's operating hours are limited to 22.00 p.m.

Even though the government provides concessions for restaurant, cafe and restaurant actors by 100 percent of capacity, but specifically for restaurants that can serve delivery or take-out for 24 hours.

"We hope that the Medan City Government will not be partial in the application of this regulation, because I still see several cafes being closed by the Satpol PP and the ranks of the sub-districts and villages," he said.

"However, there are several cafes that have not been closed until now. This means that there is still injustice in the application of these rules," said Ishaq.

Farid Wajdi, a resident of Sidorejo Hilir Village, Medan Tembung previously admitted that the Ambai Café Post on Jalan Ambai has been operating without knowing the time, even though it is entering the fasting month of Ramadan.

"There is a mosque here, we are worried that the presence of the cafe will disturb the worshipers, especially in the current holy month of Ramadan," he said.

"Even though fasting is taking place, the cafe is still open to serve visitors, morning, afternoon and evening. We ask the Medan City Government to take strong action to provide a deterrent effect," he said.
