New KPU And Bawaslu Members Must Maintain Integrity And Immediately End Election Postponement Issues
JAKARTA - Executive Director of the Democracy and Electoral Empowerment Partnership (DEEP) Indonesia Neni Nur Hayati reminded all members of the KPU and Bawaslu for the 2022-2027 period to maintain and increase the value of integrity in carrying out their responsibilities as election organizers.
"Integrity is a crucial thing that should be possessed by each member of the new KPU and Bawaslu for the 2022-2027 period who were sworn in today. The case of the 2017-2022 KPU member Wawan Setiawan who was caught in the KPK's sting operation (OTT) must be a reflection for all of us, especially for the new KPU and Bawaslu members, in order to maintain and improve integrity," said Neni when contacted by ANTARA from Medan, Tuesday. April 12.
According to her, the integrity value possessed by KPU and Bawaslu members needs to be increased in order to maintain public trust in the process and results of the upcoming 2024 General Election.
Neni said if there is any organizer involved in corruption or violating the ethics code, it will result in the loss of public trust in the process and results of the 2024 general election in accordance with election principles, such as honesty and fairness.
"If the level of trust is eroded, then the results of everything that is done by the election organizers will be difficult to trust by the public, even having an impact on the loss of public confidence in the process and results of the 2024 election," Neni said as quoted by Antara.
In addition, Neni also reminded KPU and Bawaslu members to fulfill all the commitments and visions, and missions that they had put forward when interviewed by the selection team or in the fit and proper test at the DPR RI.

"We also look forward to and collect the vision, mission, and promises of the elected KPU and Bawaslu members. It must be realized immediately. Do not just become a discourse, such as building public communication with the Government, between election organizers, election participants, and voters. Good public communication must go both ways," she said.
Furthermore, Neni encouraged KPU members for the 2022-2027 period to immediately stipulate a KPU Regulation (PKPU) regarding the 2024 Election Stages in order to end the emergence of the issue of election delays.
"After being inaugurated by President Jokowi today, KPU members for the 2022-2027 period must immediately determine the PKPU regarding the 2024 Election Stages to end the issue of delaying the 2024 Election," she said.
She also added that members of the KPU and Bawaslu need to continue to comply with the limitations of the Election Law and the Regional Election Law when conducting electronic engineering or innovations in the implementation of the 2024 General Election.
The new KPU and Bawaslu members are also expected to be able to prepare for risk or crisis management related to issues in the election, such as the stages that intersect between general elections and simultaneous elections.
