Police Investigate Viral Video Masses Beat Traffic Police On Jakarta Inner Toll Road
JAKARTA - The Metro Jaya Regional Police has investigated a video that was spread through social media regarding a mob attacking traffic police (polantas) on the Inner City Toll Road, Senayan, Central Jakarta while demonstrating in front of the DPR/MPR building.
In the video uploaded via social media, the police identified the characteristics of the perpetrators of the attack on six members of the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police while evacuating a car that was trapped during a demonstration in front of the MPR/DPR/DPD building.
"Of course, this has been investigated, from the results of the existing video we have identified the culprit, then the detectives will conduct a post-mortem to the victim so that an investigation will be carried out," said Traffic Director of Metro Jaya Police Sambodo Purnomo Yogo when met at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, April 11 evening.
Sambodo said that the incident caused one of the six police officers who were victims of the attack to have bruises and injuries to the back of the head and bruises to the chest and back of the waist, allegedly from being hit with a blunt object.
Now Commissioner Adjutant of Police Rudi Wira, the traffic police officer who was injured, must undergo treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital. Sambodo said he had witnessed how the attack took place.
He said that at that time he and five other police officers had to evacuate the vehicles that were stuck in the toll road because they saw some of the protesters entering the toll road.
"We were six people. At that time I was with Rudi Wira. We were trying to evacuate the cars that were stuck on the toll road. When I tried to calm the crowd but the crowd became more violent then someone beat Commissioner Adjutant of Police Rudi Wira and kicked his motorbike so it fell and was late escape (save yourself)," said Sambodo.
However, Sambodo did not deny that there was also a mass of students protecting the police at that time.
"I would like to thank the younger students who protected Commissioner Adjutant of Police Rudi Wira so that no serious injuries occurred," said Sambodo.
