PDIP Politician Junimart Girsang Assembles Body: It's Been Decided About The 2024 Election, Why Should There Be A Trouble?
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission II, Junimart Girsang, said that discussions related to the general election are the authority of the legislative body, not the executive, so all parties must respect it.
"If someone says the election will be extended according to the data, who are you? Because everything will return to the legislature," said Junimart at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Monday, April 11.
He said that the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections and the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections had been decided by the House of Representatives Commission II after holding a meeting with the government and the election management body. The schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections has also been agreed on February 14, 2024, while the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections will be on November 27, 2024, he added.
"Then if it's been decided, why make a fuss? The issue of postponing, extending, withdrawing, or anything related to the election, is the authority of the legislature, not the executive.
If there are parties from the executive branch and the Association of Indonesian Village Governments (Apdesi) who talk about extending the presidential term, he continued, that is only an aspiration and has not read the constitutional rules.
According to him, Article 1 and Article 7 of the 1945 Constitution stipulated that the maximum term of office for the president is two terms so that all parties do not create "wild balls" that can disturb the public.
"If you want to change the president's term of office, then an amendment will be made; what changes is in the legislative (institution) not the executive. Don't make a wild ball. Let President Jokowi work, because we all support the economy to recover and the pandemic to endemic," he said.

Junimart asked all parties to let President Jokowi work properly, and not to interfere with the discourse of extending the presidential term and postponing the election.
