More And More Congested In The Month Of Ramadan, Jakarta's Traffic Volume Is Now 2.12 Million Per Day
JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that there was an increase in traffic volume or the number of vehicles passing through Jakarta at a certain time, especially during the month of Ramadan from the previous period.
Syafrin said, in the period from March 8 to April 6, which implemented PPKM Level 2, the traffic volume in Jakarta reached 2.12 million per day. This figure increased compared to the period from February 18 to March 7 or the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) with Level of 1.92 million per day.
"From our evaluation results in the last week, compared to PPKM Level 3, the average volume of vehicles on the day of Level 2 PPKM was a slight increase, which was around 5.5 percent," said Syafrin at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, April 11.
Along with this condition, Syafrin said there was a decrease in the average vehicle speed. During PPKM Level 3, the average speed of motorized vehicles is 33.6 kilometers per hour. However, during this period the average speed was 31.7 kilometers per hour.
"There was a decrease in the average speed of around 5.7 percent. If we are in line with the traffic volume, there is an increase in the volume of 5.5 percent," said Syafrin.
Syafrin admits that the congestion that is felt along with the current increase in traffic volume is partly due to the condition of the people who want to return home immediately before evening in order to be able to break their fast together with their families.
"As we know that it is the month of Ramadan, of course in the afternoon all residents want to break the fast together at home. So, all vehicles entering the road are in the same position. Of course that causes congestion at several points," said Syafrin.

"At the beginning of Ramadan, our people's habit of making pilgrimages in several locations. The existence of a pilgrimage that parking vehicles, of course, becomes an obstacle and slows traffic," he explained.
