April 11th Action Security According To SOP, Police: Hope It's Safe

JAKARTA - The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Pol Dedi Prasetyo confirmed that he would provide escort and security for the student demonstration on April 11 at the Merdeka Palace in accordance with the rules and standard operating procedures (SOP) of the police.

He said that the National Police respects the freedom to express opinions as a constitutional right of every citizen as regulated in Law Number 9 of 1998.

"Police are obliged to serve and secure the course of these activities," said Dedi when confirmed in Jakarta, Sunday night.

Regarding the security for the BEM SI action Monday, April 11, Dedi explained that personnel from the Metro Jaya Police will be deployed to guard and secure the course of the action.

"Metro Jaya Police has prepared escort and security activities based on SOPs and applicable laws and regulations," said Dedi.

In addition, Dedi also advised students who would express their aspirations at the State Palace to comply with health protocols (prokes) because the pandemic was not over yet.

He also reminded students who would express their aspirations to respect the rights of other communities, including road users.

"God willing, the community also understands the obligations they carry out. Hopefully tomorrow it will be safe and peaceful, especially in the month of goodness (Ramadan)," said Dedi.

Meanwhile, Metro Jaya Police has prepared security to guard the demonstration by the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) in Jakarta, today, Monday, April 11.

Students who are members of the BEM SI alliance plan to hold a demonstration in front of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

There are six points of demands that will be submitted by students in the demonstration. One of them is the issue of extending the presidential term and postponing the 2024 election.

The demonstration is planned to be held in the vicinity of the State Palace in Central Jakarta.

Metro Jaya Police will conduct traffic engineering around the area of the State Palace, Monas, and the Indonesian Parliament Building.
