The Story Behind The Arrest Of Two KKB Members, One Was Shot Dead

JAKARTA - The Gakkum Ops Damai Cartenz Task Force arrested two members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Siriwini, Nabire Regency. One of them was shot dead.

Two members of the separatist group are Toni Tabuni and Kais Tabuni. The arrests took place on Tuesday, March 29.

Killed Shot

The arrests of the two began when the Task Force for Gakkum Ops Damai Cartenz conducted an investigation into members of the KKB. According to information, the separatist group is located in Siriwini Village, Nabire Regency.

The information was followed up. The team from the task force immediately went to the location and it was proven that the information was true.

Thus, an arrest attempt was made. However, Toni Tabuni fought back against the officers.

"The Cartenz Peace Operations Gakkum Task Force took firm action which resulted in the death of the suspect," said Head of the Cartenz Peace Operations Public Relations Task Force Grand Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal in his statement, Wednesday, March 30.

Toni's Role

Toni Tabuni (24) is not an arbitrary KKB member. This man is suspected of being involved in a series of attacks in recent years.

Based on the information, Toni is suspected of being involved in the shooting of the Head of Regional BIN (Kabinda) Lt. Gen. (P) TNI I Gusti Putu Dani Nugraha in Beoga District on April 25, 2021.

"Involved in the shooting action against Kabinda Papua," said Kamal.

Then, Toni is also suspected of being involved in the shooting of two Covid Task Force officers on behalf of Alemalik Bagau and Heniko Somau in Intan Jaya on May 22, 2020.

His figure was also said to have been involved in the theft of three firearms of the SS1 and AK47 types.

Toni also took part in the arson at Bilorai Intan Jaya Airport, on October 29, 2021. In fact, he was involved in a shootout with the TNI-Polri.

"Involved in a firefight with the joint TNI-Polri team at Sugapa Intan Jaya on November 5, 2021, with the victim Oce Belau, who is the Intan Jaya KKB Troop," said Kamal.

Meanwhile, Kais Tabuni is suspected of having helped Toni in his series of crimes. Currently, Kais is still undergoing an intensive examination at the Nabire Police Station.

Mobile Brigade Socks

During the arrest, the task force confiscated evidence from both of them. One of them was a pair of socks that said Brimob.

"(Evidence, red) One pair of striped socks that read Brimob," said Kamal.

However, there was no further detail about Toni or Kais who were the owners of the socks.

It was only explained that several other items of evidence confiscated were in the form of 20 rounds of cal.5.56 ammunition and various types of clothing such as jackets, pants, and shirts.

On the other hand, Kamal also emphasized that the situation in Nabire Regency is conducive. TNI-Polri officers continue to be on standby to ensure the safety of the community.

"We can convey that the situation in Nabire Regency is still running safely and conducive," said Kamal.
