WhatsApp Will Allow Users To Send Files Up To 2GB In Size

JAKARTA - So far, WhatsApp is known as a messaging application that limits users from sending media files with a larger size. However, it seems that the provisions will soon change.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp is testing the ability of users to send files up to 2GB in size after WhatsApp for iOS released beta version 22.7.0.76, which finally brings support for iOS 15.

The report comes from a few lucky users in Argentina. There they were found to try out these features. They found a message that allows users to share media files up to 2GB.

Currently, WhatsApp users can only share media files up to 100MB. WhatsApp rival Telegram, on the other hand, has been letting users share up to 2GB since 2020.

Citing 9to5Mac, Monday, March 28, however, WABetaInfo said the company plans to roll out this feature to more users in the future. Because it is still in testing, WhatsApp can also make changes.

The company has long been criticized for how much photos are compressed, which keeps users from getting better and better quality photos, so users look for apps or other alternative methods.

WhatsApp has prepared at least two other main functions, namely reactions and multi-device compatibility 2.0.

For reactions, users can reply to messages from other users using the six available emoji, thumbs up, hearts, crying, laughing, surprised faces, or folded hands which are usually interpreted as thank you. This function is already available in beta.

Next, multi-device compatibility 2.0, will allow users to have other smartphones using the same WhatsApp account and even unlock the iPad app, this is a feature that many users demand.
