JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto is targeting the capacity of cassava land to reach 1.4 million hectares in Indonesia by the end of 2025.
This was conveyed by Prabowo after attending a Limited Meeting on food estate led by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) via video conference, in Jakarta, Wednesday, September 23.
"I only explained the future plans for cassava and in Central Kalimantan we will start in 2021, 30,000 hectares. Then until the end of 2025 our target will continue to increase, until the end of 2025 as many as 1.4 million hectares. That outline," Prabowo said as quoted by Antara.
Prabowo said he had a task from the President to provide support for the implementation of the food estate. In this case there is already a division of tasks that the Minister of Defense will handle the development of cassava food reserves.
"Earlier it was explained that the roadmap plan in Central Kalimantan and the Governor of Central Kalimantan has supported the land and made backups in the field, so we are ready to start," he explained.
He said that with cassava, Indonesia could produce tapioca flour which could be the main ingredient for food needs.
"Cassava can be used as bread food, rice from cassava and also noodles. Indonesia is the second largest consumer of noodles in the world and we want to ensure that we do not depend on supplies from abroad. We are optimistic that it will work well," he explained.
