Development Of Drug Case Rhea Chakraborty Drags 5 New Names
JAKARTA - The Mumbai unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau, which is investigating drug cases in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, detained five people and confiscated 928 grams of charas (Indian marijuana) and cash after raiding the residence of one of them.
A team led by Samir Wankhede, Zone Director of NCB, detained one of the suspects from Versova on Thursday local time after acting on information provided by a suspect who was arrested in connection with a drug investigation related to Sushant's death.
"Based on Ankush Arenja's information in his statement under article 67 that Rahil Rafat Vishra, alias Sam, has supplied Charas to Ankush Arenja, a total of 928 grams of charas and 4,36,000 rupees in cash have been confiscated from the house search said Rahil Rafat Vishra. Further investigation ongoing, "said the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB) in a statement quoted by India News, Sunday, September 20.
The arrests were made in the same case (case number NCB MZU Kr. No. 16/2020) in which actor Rhea Chakraborty and her sister Showik were arrested on charges of financing the procurement and supply of drugs to actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died on June 14 of this.
Rhea Chakraborty is currently stationed at Byculla Prison in Mumbai. His bail application was rejected by the special court for anti-drug cases and he is likely to seek bail in the High Court soon.
Rhea Chakraborty denied allegations leveled by NCB that she was an active member of a drug syndicate.
Three other suspects have also been arrested for possession of 490 grams of marijuana, NCB said in a statement.
“On the confession of Ankush Arenja, in his statement the name Rohan Talwar appeared. A search for Rohan Talwar's house was carried out and 10 grams of Ganja was found. At Rohan Talwar's confession one person, Nogthoung, was intercepted and 370 grams of marijuana were found from him. "In developing Nogthoung's statement, another person, Vishal Salve, was intercepted, and 110 grams of marijuana was found from him," he said.
The anti-drug agency initially filed a case (case number NCB MZU Cr. No.15/2020) against Rhea Chakraborty after the Enforcement Directorate claimed that the actress's phone records indicated that she was in contact with a drug dealer.
But investigations later linked Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik to a drug dealer in another case (case number NCB MZU Cr. 16/2020) that was registered following the arrests of Abbas Ramzan Ali Lakhani and Karan Arora.
The investigation into the first case began with the examinations of former manager Sushant Singh Rajput, Shruti Modi and film industry talent manager Jaya Saha.
However, their examination was postponed after one of the team members assigned to the case contracted COVID-19.
