Hunting For Arsonists At The AGO, Police Threaten 15 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - Bareskrim Polri concluded that the fire incident at the Attorney General's Building contained elements of a criminal act. Thus, the official investigator raised the case to the investigative level.

Kabareskrim Polri, Komjen Listyo Sigit Prabowo, revealed that currently his party is still pursuing the perpetrators. According to him, his party would charge the perpetrator under Articles 187 and 188 of the Criminal Code.

"Where, Article 187 of the Criminal Code, whoever deliberately causes a fire with a maximum sentence of 12 to 15 years, even for life if there is a victim. Then Article 188 of the Criminal Code, whoever deliberately or negligently has a maximum sentence of 5 years," Listyo told reporters Thursday, 17 September.

So far, he said, his party was still examining witnesses. 131 witnesses have been questioned. They come from cleaning service officers, office boys, AGO employees, and experts.

"We are conducting investigations and examining potential witnesses, potential suspects," he said.

Listyo emphasized that his party would not hesitate to take action against anyone involved. So, in the future there will be no polemic in the community.

"We are committed to a joint commitment not to hesitate to process anyone involved. So I hope there will be no more polemic. We investigate this transparently," he said.

Previously, the National Police held a case with the AGO regarding the burning of the Main Building of the Adhyaksa Corps. Based on the results of the case title, investigators considered that there was a criminal element behind the fire.

"The incident occurred, meanwhile the investigators concluded that they were suspected of a criminal incident," said Sigit.

Meanwhile, the Adhyaksa Corps Building caught fire on Saturday, August 22 at 19.10 WIB. It is suspected that the fire came from the third floor. However, it is not certain what caused the fire to appear.

After burning for almost 12 hours, the fire finally went out at around 06.28 WIB. It took 65 fire engines including two Bronto Skylift units deployed to extinguish the fire. There were no fatalities in this incident.
