Beware Nvidia RTX LHR V2 Unlocker Is Full Of Virus That Can Infect Ethereum Mining System
JAKARTA - A tool released on GitHub advertised for its ability to unlock Ethereum mining from the latest Nvidia RTX graphics cards, was found to actually contain malware.
Tom's Hardware & and PC Gamers Tom wrote about this initially promising utility, called "Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker." This software claims to remove Nvidia's "Lite Hash Rate" software which is implemented in newer graphics cards to prevent crypto miners from buying gaming GPUs.
In yesterday's YouTube Livestream on the Red Panda Mining channel, members of the mining community ChumpchangeXD and Y3TI shared their findings that the tool contains multiple viruses.
Even according to Tom's Hardware, this tool doesn't even perform the function of removing the limit on the hash rate for your GPU.
Instead, it seems to infect the system and cause several other unusual behaviors, such as high CPU usage, checking system drives, and other things that do pose some red flags.

According to The Verge, since Nvidia implemented Lite Hash Rate in graphics cards starting in mid-2021, there has been a great demand for earlier RTX cards that had no hash rate cap. A tool that can reduce demand by removing the limit from newer cards is a tempting proposition.
Unfortunately, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
