A Number Of Villages In Batang Were Hit By Floods And Landslides
BATANG - Heavy rains with high intensity that flushed the Batang Regency, Central Java until Friday afternoon caused a number of villages and sub-districts to be hit by floods and landslides.
The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batang Regency, Ulul Azmi, said that a number of areas that were hit by floods include Klidanglor and North Karangasem, Batang District, while villages that were hit by landslides such as the villages of Gerlang, Bismo, and Sangubanyu.
"Indeed, it rained quite heavily until Friday afternoon, so that a number of villages in the northern region were hit by floods, while the upper areas were hit by landslides," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 18.
He said the rain with a fairly high intensity caused the Sambong river to overflow and the water ran over to the residential areas around the riverbanks.
Currently the water level, he said, has reached about 20 centimeters and has submerged dozens of houses in a number of sub-districts in Batang.
The Batang Regency Government has carried out flood management and is on standby by preparing several equipment such as rubber boats, lights, and buoys.
"When the weather is like this, we are on standby along with other joint teams from the sub-district and village parties, all the equipment is ready," he said.
Ulul Azmi said the heavy rains also caused the emergence of several landslide points in the upper regions such as Bawang, Blado and Bandar sub-districts.
"A small number of landslides have closed village roads. However, the landslides have been removed so that they do not hinder the activities of residents," he said.
