Besides Competence And Integrity, PKS Supports 30 Percent Of Women's Representation In KPU And Bawaslu
JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR is still carrying out a fit and proper test for candidates for KPU and Bawaslu members for the 2022-2027 term of office until tomorrow, Wednesday, February 16.
DPR Commission II member Mardani Ali Sera said that the competence and integrity of the KPU and Bawaslu candidates was very important to consider. What is no less important is the capacity, competence, and quality, not the background.
"Hopefully, we can make the KPU and Bawaslu inclusive, qualified, and with integrity. So that a good democracy can be realized," said Mardani to reporters, Tuesday, February 14.
In addition, according to Mardani, the independence of the KPU and Bawaslu is an absolute requirement for the creation of an election that is humane, fair and sided with the people. He said that simultaneous elections with a long span of time required spirit and mental and physical health, especially in being fair and independent.
"We need members of the KPU and Bawaslu who are strong in terms of details and plans in responding to the complex challenges of the 2024 election," said Mardani.
"When the fit and proper test, the candidate must have spoken about the details, the technical implications of the stages, especially when the general election and regional head elections are held in the same year and at the same stage," he continued.
The member of the PKS faction stated that he supported the representation of women at least 30 representatives in the KPU and Bawaslu for the 2024 simultaneous general elections.
"Representation of women in this democracy is really needed to complete the direction of development and perfect the formation of quality policies that prioritize justice and welfare," said Mardani.
The PKS faction, he said, always tries to establish communication with all parties in the DPR so that the composition of commissioners in the election management body is as expected.
"Meanwhile, in Commission II, we will pay attention to the representation of women in line with examining the capabilities and capacities of each candidate for commissioner," said Mardani.
