Meanwhile, Brentford is still stuck in 14th position with 23 points. Their position could be shifted because Leeds United and Everton still play less than Brentford.
The game was pretty slow in the first 20 minutes. Despite being able to dominate possession, City struggled to penetrate the visitors' penalty box.
Brentford had threatened the City goal in the 22nd minute. However, the opportunity was in vain because the linesman raised the offside flag.
In the 27th minute, City had the best chance. A low cross was sent by Joao Cancelo in front of the goal mouth, but Raheem Sterling found it too late.
Sterling again threw opportunities in the 32nd minute. His volley ball near the goal is still far from the target.
Man City got another golden opportunity in the 35th minute and wasted. Already in a free position in the penalty box, Aymeric Laporte's shot was wide of the goal.
The Citizens were awarded a penalty after Sterling was fouled by Mads Roerslev. Riyad Mahrez advanced as executor and successfully brought his team 1-0 up in the 40th minute.
Brentford replied to the goal with a counter-attack in the 43rd minute. Ederson's goal came close to conceding as opposing players took advantage of a City error, but there were no additional goals until half-time and the score was still 1-0.
After the break, City immediately stepped on the gas to increase their advantage.
City made the first threat in the second half in the 54th minute through Cancelo. The Portuguese player's shot was still weak so it could be easily secured by goalkeeper David Raya.
The home team finally doubled their lead in the 69th minute. The goal started with Raya's bait ball that fell to Sterling's feet and then immediately fired. Raya could have parried, but the rebound was successfully completed by De Bruyne to make it 2-0.
City continued to attack incessantly in the remaining time of the match, but there were no additional goals until the referee ended the match.
