JAKARTA - Today, children spend more time playing on their gadgets. Parents are required to monitor all activities when children surf in cyberspace.

Given that in the era of the information society, the internet is like a double-edged sword, can provide beneficial, positive global information on children's development and can provide public information. But on the one hand, the internet also has another side which is certainly not good for children to access.

1. Communication and education

Parents must be open and provide education before children start accessing the Internet. Recommend good sites with educational content to children.

Remind children not to provide personal data, personal identification information such as full name, home address, age, gender, mother's name, father's name, account password or bank account.

Maintain profile information on Social Media and Cyber accounts, because it is timeless, it is difficult to delete and becomes a reference for the child's career. Ensure that social media profiles are password protected and use the appropriate privacy mode.

2. Parental control

Instead, parents encourage children to use tools to control violent content, pornography on the internet and age censorship on devices, games and browsers. Get children used to accessing TV, games or gadgets in public spaces, or with their parents.

3. Time and place limits

Give a time limit to play the Internet both on the device, to prevent addiction when playing online games, instant messaging services such as Whatsapp and the internet. Not playing on the Internet while eating, sleeping, in the bathroom, in class, at meetings and walking in public places

4. Punishment for children

When a child breaks the rules, parents can provide penalties such as not being able to handle the device for 24 hours or more. This is of course good because it is so that children do not arbitrarily violate the rules that you have made.

5. Make friends on social media

In order for children to interact with peers or their age, family, parents should be able to make friends on social media. This at the same time can control what children do when playing social media.

6. Set good examples

8. Tell children about the dangers of accessing negative content

Finally, parents are required to educate their children to know that Indonesia is a rule of law, which has laws and sanctions related to pornography, regulated in the Pornography Law No. 44/2008 and ITE Law No. 11/2008. Dissemination of content that violates decency, pornography via the Internet is regulated in article 27 paragraph 1 of the ITE Law regarding prohibited acts and is subject to imprisonment of up to six years and / or a fine of up to Rp1 billion.
