Born And Raised In America, Ski Athlete Eileen Gu Flooded With Riches When Voting To Represent China At The Winter Olympics

JAKARTA - A big decision was made by ski athlete, Eileen Gu because even though she was born and raised in America, she chose to represent China at the 2022 Winter Olympics. From his decision, Gu immediately flooded wealth through sponsorship deals from his new country.

Reporting from the Daily Mail, 18-year-old Gu first recorded a fantastic fortune. Because, apart from being a ski athlete, Gu is also a model for the world famous fashion brand, Victoria's Secret.

The young athlete is known to have a net worth of 740,000 Euros or the equivalent of Rp12 billion. But that number is believed to continue to grow this year after his decision to defend China.

His reasoning made sense, because in his adopted country Gu was known to have received more than 20 sponsorship offers. Some of them are even product giants such as Bank of China, China Mobile and the Mengniu dairy company.

Reported by the Daily Mail, Saturday, February 5, to be able to establish a partnership in the form of a sponsorship agreement with ski athletes, a company must disburse funds of 1.84 million euros or around Rp. 30 billion rupiah. The amount is only one product, what about the offers that come to Gu that exceed dozens of products and companies.

Despite the flood of sponsorship offers after choosing to defend China, Gu has quite emotional reasons for his decision to turn away from America and defend China at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

"The opportunity to help inspire the millions of young people my mother was born to during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help promote the sport I love," Gu said.

Gu himself could choose to defend China even though he was previously an American ski athlete because of his family tree. Gu's father is an American citizen and his mother is from China. Gu had American citizenship but then chose to change it to China and he officially started to become a Chinese ski athlete in 2019.
