Remembering His Father's Message, Erick Thohir Likens Economy To Coffee Philosophy

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir recalled his father's figure in educating about economics. He said his late father viewed the economy as making coffee.

"This economy is like making coffee, the philosophy of coffee," said Erick.

He spoke during the Zulhas Award and Cultural Speech of Zulkifli Hasan which was held at the National Library Building, Jakarta, Saturday, January 29 yesterday.

Erick explained that the best way to mix coffee is to prepare hot water, coffee, sugar and stir it evenly. Only then did the coffee taste good to enjoy.

If it is not stirred evenly, the coffee that is being mixed will thicken.

"It feels not (so) good," he said.

Reflecting on the process, he said the economy must also be built in an appropriate and equitable way. Erick adheres to his late father's message about the philosophy of blending coffee and its relation to an equitable economy.

Erick emphasized that as the Minister of SOEs and General Chair of the Central Management of the Islamic Economic Community, he will continue to strive to create an equitable economy in Indonesia.

"My job should be how to ensure the balance of this economy when there is a gap," said Erick.

The Zulhas Award ceremony and Zulkifli Hasan's Cultural Speech were attended by a number of national figures, including DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, and SOE Minister Erick Thohir.
