PKS Appoints Evalina Heryanti, Christian Council Of Experts, PSI: Hopefully Not A Gimmick
JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has appointed Evalina Heryanti, who is a Christian, as a member of the Expert Council for their party.
In response to this, PSI Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the PSI DPP Grace Natalie hopes that this is not just a political gimmick. Given, as the public knows, PKS is an Islamic party.
"It's okay that PKS has appointed a Christian in their management, that's how a political party in a country should be based on Pancasila. Hopefully this isn't just a political gimmick," Grace told reporters, Thursday, January 27.
However, Grace said the public would really be able to judge that PKS would be moderate if they supported humanitarian-based laws such as the Sexual Violence Act.
"If this is not done by PKS, people will realize that PKS is only a religious-based party that pretends to be a nationalistic party," said Grace.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) inaugurated a number of members of the Expert Council last Monday, January 24. The inauguration ceremony was attended directly by PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu.
There is something interesting about the inauguration of the PKS Expert Council, one of its members is Evalina Heryanti who is a Christian. As many people know that PKS is an Islamic party.
Member of the House of Representatives Commission III of the PKS Faction Nasir Djamil said that Evalina's joining PKS was a common occurrence in one political party. Nasir admitted that PKS is not a party that divides people with certain religions in politics.
“Political parties belong to the people, so anyone has the right to join a party of their choosing. So the joining of Evalina, who is a Christian, is a common thing,” Nasir told VOI.
He also admitted that it was the duty of a party in a democratic country to maintain diversity and not divide one's democratic rights with religion.
"We don't want open party fanfare or the like, but what's important is that our job as a political party is to maintain diversity and diversity," he concluded.
