Iran Calls Israel-UAE Normalization A Betrayal Of Islam

JAKARTA - The normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel continues to draw criticism. Most recently, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called the agreement a betrayal of Palestine and the Islamic world.

“Of course the betrayal of the UAE will not last long. But this stigma will always be remembered. They let the Zionist regime have a foothold in the region and forget about Palestine, ”said Khamenei, quoted by Reuters, Wednesday, September 2.

"The UAE will be humiliated forever because of this betrayal of the Islamic world, Arab countries and Palestine," he added.

Khamenei added that the comment was in accordance with the existing reality. In fact, he was even more outraged when a delegation of senior Israeli officials and the United States (US) entered into a historic agreement in Abu Dhabi to open an agreement to normalize relations.

"The UAE is with Israelis and Americans who are evil, like members of the Jews. Moreover, Trump's family has been working together against the interests of the Islamic world. I hope the UAE people wake up and correct the mistakes they have committed." said Khamenei.

Even so, Khamenei's comments were immediately commented on by the official of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jamal Al-Musharakh. He quipped Khamenei in front of Abu Dhabi journalists by saying that the path to peace and prosperity should not be initiated through incitement or hate speech.

Earlier, the historic deal awarded US President Donald Trump a major foreign policy win. So far, Trump, who is trying to be re-elected as president in the November elections, is worried that the Middle East will take over Arab support for Palestine.
