Making It Hot, A Group Of Residents Carry Out Arson Actions At Elelim Yalimo Ahead Of PSU

JAYAPURA - A group of people, Saturday, January 22, carried out an arson action in Elelim ahead of the re-voting (PSU) in Yalimo Regency, Papua. The PSU was carried out on candidate pair number 01 Lakius Peyon - Nahum Mabel and candidate pair 02 Nahor Nekwek - John Wilil.

"It is true that there were cases of burning of two houses, each of which has four doors," said Yalimo Police Chief AKBP Hesman Napitupulu when contacted by Antara from Jayapura, Saturday night, January 22.

When asked about the 11 residents who were detained, the Yalimo Police Chief admitted that the investigation was still in progress.

He revealed that there were no fatalities in the incident and the average house was built with wood material so that it was easily flammable

The PSU in Yalimo Regency is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 26, followed by two pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent, namely candidate pair number 01 Lakius Peyon - Nahum Mabel and candidate pair 02 Nahor Nekwek - John Wilil.

The data collected revealed that the fire occurred at around 13.50 WIT which scorched two houses with four doors each located in the Yalimo Regional Government Housing Area in Elelim.

Previously, on June 29, 2021, shortly after the announcement of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the election dispute which decided the implementation of the PSU in Yalimo and aborted the candidate for Regent Er Dabi so that he could not participate in the PSU, a group of residents set fire to their offices and houses. As a result, 1,137 people were displaced and losses reached Rp 324 billion.
