Two Fans Sue Universal For 'Disappearing' Ana De Armas
JAKARTA - Two fans are suing the production house Universal Pictures for removing actress Ana de Armas from the film Yesterday.
Conor Woulfe and Peter Michael Rosza are fans who want to see director Danny Boyle's 2019 film Yesterday. They paid $3 to rent the film via Amazon Prime.
Both were disappointed. The appearance of Ana de Armas that they see in the trailer is not seen throughout the film. They also sued Universal for a deceptive marketing strategy and demanded $5 in damages.
"Because consumers were promised a film with Ana de Armas from the Yesterday trailer, but no Ana de Armas appearance at all, consumers did not receive any value for their purchase," the lawsuit reads, according to Variety.
Conor and Peter recruited Cody R. Lejeune as attorney for the lawsuit and look forward to Universal's response. The production house reportedly declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Yesterday is a musical drama film that tells of Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) who experiences supernatural abilities where he is the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles. Malik also became popular when performing their songs
Ana de Armas is told to play Roxane, a woman who is attracted to Jack Malik. In one scene, Malik sings George Harrison's song Something for Roxane but that scene is removed from the final cut of the film.
The film Yesterday explained the disappearance of Ana de Armas from the film. Richard Curtis as the scriptwriter explained that the audience was not happy with the story of Jack Malik finding a new love in his life. "It was very traumatic because she (Ana de Armas) played so brilliantly. I think it was very shining. You know it's one of our favorite scenes from the film that we need to cut for the whole film," explained Curtis.
