Examined For Gratification Cases And To Be Detained, Former Head Of BPN Denpasar Commits Suicide

JAKARTA - Former Head of the Denpasar National Land Agency (BPN) Tri Nugraha, was determined to end his life by shooting himself with a firearm. This action was carried out in the toilet of the Bali High Prosecutor's Office.

This suicide began when Tri Nugraha was investigated for the case that involved him and was about to be detained. Namely the case of alleged acceptance of gratuities when he was the head of BPN.

"The suspect was injured in his left chest and a firearm was found near the suspect's body," Hari Setiyono, Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office, said in his statement, Monday, September 1.

After undergoing examination, Tri asked for permission to worship and was allowed by investigators. After some time had passed, Tri didn't come back. So, investigators decided to look for his whereabouts.

"Investigators conducted a search to the nearest mosque, but the suspect was not found, so the investigation team consolidated and agreed to make an arrest," said Hari.

Tri's whereabouts were finally discovered. Investigators arrested him at his home and were immediately taken to the Bali High Prosecutor's Office for detention. Then, the investigating team conducted a rapid test and the results were non-reactive for COVID-19.

Furthermore, when he was about to be moved to the Kerobokan detention center, Tri again asked for permission to go to the toilet and ordered his lawyer to retrieve the small bag stored in the locker.

"After the bag was handed over to the suspect then the suspect entered the toilet room, about two minutes passed from inside the toilet there was a sound of one explosion and after a break in the toilet door it was found that the suspect was injured in the left chest and a firearm was found near the suspect's body. , "said Hari.

So, he was immediately taken to the Bros. Hospital. However, Tri Nugraha was not helped and was declared dead.

With the incident, Attorney General Burhanuddin ordered the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to investigate whether there was a procedural violation behind the suicide incident.

"To ascertain whether there is a violation of the SOP or not, the investigating team of the Bali High Prosecutor's Office in carrying out their duties and functions in handling cases has committed the incident," said Hari.
