DPR Members From PKS Want IDR 14,000 Cooking Oil Also Present At Traditional Markets To Reach Lower Class People

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI Amin Ak stated that the policy of cooking oil at a price of Rp. 14,000 per liter needs to be extended to traditional markets to reach the lower class.

"The distribution of cooking oil of Rp. 14,000 per liter must reach traditional markets as a form of implementing economic justice for the entire community," said Amin Ak, in a release, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 21.

According to this DRP member from PKS, traditional market consumers and MSMEs are the groups most affected by the soaring price of cooking oil, which is currently around Rp. 20 thousand per liter.

Moreover, Amin said, based on a study by the Institute for Development on Economics and Finance (Indef), the expenditure of the poor for food was 52 percent of their total expenditure, while the poor and near-poor were 62 percent of the population.

Amin said the policy for cooking oil prices of Rp. 14 thousand per liter was actually still higher than the reference for the highest retail price (HET) for simple packaged cooking oil set by the government, which was Rp. 11,000 per liter based on Minister of Trade Regulation No. 7 of 2020.

He argues that the government should be able to control the supply and price of CPO for domestic needs, especially to meet domestic cooking oil, especially since there has been an agreement between the government and the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (GIMNI) regarding the 20 percent domestic market obligation. has been running since 2018.

With CPO production of 47.5 million tons in 2021, Amin said the amount of DMO reached 9.6 million tons, still enough to meet domestic needs of 8 million tons and the price according to the HET was IDR 11,000 per liter.

"If it is related to the DMO obligation of 20 percent, then the price policy of Rp. 14,000 is essentially the government subsidizing entrepreneurs," said Amin.

Previously, the Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Edy Priyono said the government ensured the supply of cooking oil was safe and sufficient for the people's needs for the next six months.

This was stated by Edy Priyono in a KSP press release in Jakarta, Thursday, following the implementation of the one-price cooking oil policy of Rp. 14,000 per liter, which was implemented on Wednesday, January 19 and attracted public interest.
