The Weeknd Attends MTV VMA 2020 With Bruised And Wound Face, What's Up?
JAKARTA - The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) award ceremony was just held on Sunday, August 30 local time. The packaging of this event is different from previous years where MTV first recorded the performances of musicians, including The Weeknd, BTS, Lady Gaga, and others.
One that caught the eye was The Weeknd which received an award and sang with a face covered in bruises and scars. Some fans might think that the bruised makeup was done following the concept of his latest album, After Hours.
As it turns out, there is another reason behind it. This is known when he twice took to the stage, received the Video of the Year and Best R&B awards for the song Blinding Lights.
Awkwardly, he accepted the trophy saying, "It's really hard for me to celebrate and enjoy something right now, so I just want to say, justice for Jacob Blake and justice for Breonna Taylor."
The second time he went on stage, The Weeknd uttered the same sentence with his flat face.
Jacob Blake is a man who was shot multiple times when he was getting into a car on August 23. He was shot by police in Kenosha and is now in a critical position.
Meanwhile Breonna Taylor experienced the same thing after police in Louisville tried to break into her apartment because she suspected Taylor was related to two men who sold drugs. These two men are known to live close to Taylor.
As a black singer, The Weeknd is active in voicing injustice to the government. This action received a positive response from the MTV VMA 2020 audience, they called The Weeknd one of the musicians who understand issues like this.
