Praveen/Melati Deletion Polemic, Head Of PBSI: Promotion And Degradation Shouldn't Be Controversy

JAKARTA – The issue of removing several athletes from the PBSI National Training (Pelatnas) has been busy in recent days. The national badminton parent also asked that the issue should not be used as a controversy.

The discourse on the relegation of athletes from Pelatnas dragged the best-mixed doubles from Indonesia, Praveen Jordan, and his partner Melati Daeva Oktavianti. In addition, there is also the mixed doubles name Hafiz Faisal/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

"The promotion and relegation process is normal and happens every year. That's why I ask that the promotion and relegation process don't become a controversy," said PP PBSI General Chair Agung Firman Sampurna in an official statement received by VOI.

Until now, the decision letter regarding the promotion and relegation of Pelatnas athletes has not been officially issued by PBSI. It is possible that a new decree will be issued after the national selection (Selection) which will take place in the period 10-15 January 2022.

Agung said that the process of promotion and relegation of players at the PBSI Pelatnas in Cipayung was a common thing every year. The process is an integral part of the governance and coaching of athletes.

"This year promotion and relegation will continue to use the same methods and criteria as in previous years. This is done objectively for the growth and development of talented young athletes," he said.

The achievements and performances of athletes residing in the National Training Center are constantly evaluated. The results of the evaluation produce names that will survive and names that should be relegated.

"So, this promotion and degradation is business as usual which happens every year at Pelatnas Cipayung. Likewise this year PBSI will also carry out promotion and degradation activities," said Agung.

After the national selection, PBSI will soon hold a meeting with the Head of the Development and Achievement Division and the coaches. This meeting will determine the names of athletes who will be called to Pelatnas and who will be returned to their respective clubs.

This year's national selection was attended by 397 athletes from 27 provinces. The selection process uses a round robin and knock out system with two age categories to be competed, namely cadets and adults.
