Djokovic Has A Chance To Appear In Australia At The Age Of Winning An Appeal For Deportation

JAKARTA - Djokovic's chance to set a record at the 2022 Australian Open is starting to open up a bit. That's after the Serbian tennis player won the deportation appeal.

Djokovic is now released from immigration detention on Monday, January 10. He won in court to stay in Australia and the chance to appear in the grand slam at the start of the season which starts on 17 January.

Judge Anthony Kelly, as reported by Reuters quoted by Antara, ruled that the federal government's decision to revoke the world number one tennis star's visa last week was "absurd". He also ordered that Djokovic be released.

The judge's decision was applauded by around 50 Djokovic supporters outside the Melbourne court. However, federal government prosecutors signaled the legal battle was not over.

Djokovic's fate remains to be determined by Immigration Minister Alex Hawke. Alex is said to have the right to use his personal powers to revoke Djokovic's visa.

If this step is taken, Djokovic will not be allowed to enter Australia for three years. Kelly warned prosecutors that "the stakes are now rising, not falling."

Djokovic's case began when the ABF (Australian Border Force) refused the visa of the owner of 20 grand slam titles when he arrived at Tullamarine airport last week.

He is considered ineligible to enter Australia because he has not been vaccinated. Tennis Australia's special medical clearance and two different independent panels didn't make the ABF pass it either way.

Feeling dissatisfied, Djokovic finally made an appeal because his medical permission was obtained after being infected with Covid-19 on December 16, 2021. This basis makes the tennis player's lawyer feel his client has the right to enter Australia.

The incident received worldwide attention and strained diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Canberra, sparking heated debate over national vaccination rules.

Djokovic is chasing a tenth title in Australia. If he can appear the opportunity to carve the record is very large, including passing the record for the most grand slams in the men's singles number from his two competitors, namely Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
