Three Villages In Timika's Amar District Were Severely Damaged By The Flood
TIMIKA - Deputy Regent of Mimika, Papua, Johannes Rettob stated that several houses of residents of Kampung Amar, Kawar, and Manuare, in Amar District were seriously damaged by tidal flooding accompanied by waves as high as three to four meters.
"Based on a report from the Mimika Regency Baznas Emergency Response Team which descended to the Amar District since Thursday, January 6 evening, sea water began to enter the village at around 04.00 WIT. Big waves started hitting people's houses on the beach. This condition lasted for one hour with a wave height of about three to four meters", said Timika Deputy Regent, John Rettob, quoted by Antara on Friday, January 7.
As a result of this natural incident, the residents of three villages in the Amar District were unable to carry out fishing activities in the sea due to high wind conditions accompanied by high waves.
Residents who lost their homes and badly damaged houses temporarily took refuge and took refuge in the village hall.
Not a few people's property drifted into the sea and was damaged after their houses were hit by the tidal flood.
The head of Amar Lodiwik Mameyao said that 160 families with 569 people live in the area.
The losses suffered due to the tidal flood in Amar were three houses lost, 30 people displaced consisting of 16 adults, three babies and 11 children.
There were seven houses in Amar Village which were moderately damaged, one fiber boat was missing, the village gate was heavily damaged and two bridges to the village were heavily damaged.
Meanwhile, the Head of Kawar Village, Satorlinus Mutapea, reported that as a result of the tidal flood, six fiber boats were heavily damaged, three Jonson 15 PK boats were damaged, four residents' houses were moderately damaged, one diesel-powered substation was heavily damaged and no longer functioning because the batteries were submerged in water (PLTS electricity substation), one bridge unit was heavily damaged and two public toilet units were heavily damaged.
Kawar village is inhabited by 54 families with 340 people.
The tidal flood also damaged a number of facilities in Manuare Village led by Amandus Timakopeay.
The facilities damaged in Manuare Village included two heavily damaged fiber boats, six moderately damaged fiber boats, a bridge that was heavily damaged, four clean water wells were buried and public roads were damaged.
Manuare village is inhabited by 48 families with 195 people.

Mimika Deputy Regent, John Rettob, stated that currently the urgent needs in the three villages of the Amar District are mineral water because well water sources have been mixed with sea water, basic necessities, suitable clothing, baby and toddler needs, availability of medical personnel and medicines, roofs. zinc and lighting equipment, especially the repair of PLTS substations.
Deputy Regent John Rettob, who is currently in Jakarta to participate in PDI-P's internal activities, asked the Baznas volunteer team and Mimika Regency volunteers as well as the PDI-Perjuangan Building Team to record all damage to public facilities and property belonging to residents of three villages in the Amar District.
"Thankfully, there were no reports of casualties. I have asked the BTD Team, Mimika Volunteers and the Mimika PDI-Perjuangan Building Team to collect data on all the damage. What is clear is that in the near future there will be aid deliveries to the Amar District", said John.
