Komnas Perempuan Appreciates President Jokowi's Attitude To Support Acceleration Of The TPKS Bill

JAKARTA - Komnas Perempuan (National Commission Against Violence Against Women)appreciates President Jokowi's attitude in expressing support for accelerating the discussion and ratification of the Draft Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS) into law.

President Jokowi previously mentioned the importance of protecting and handling victims of sexual violence. Based on social facts, women are a group that is vulnerable to sexual violence.

Komnas Perempuan considers that the statement of the President's stance delivered on January 4, 2022, proves that the President has paid attention to the process of the TPKS Bill since 2016.

In fact, President Jokowi hopes that the TPKS Bill will soon be passed as a form of state responsibility in providing protection for victims of sexual violence and providing legal certainty.

Therefore, the President has ordered the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham), Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, and the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Bintang Puspayoga to coordinate and consult with the House of Representatives.

Not only that, Jokowi has assigned a government task force formed to handle the TPKS Bill to prepare an inventory list of problems with the TPKS Bill.

Previously, President Jokowi pushed for the acceleration of the ratification of the TPKS Bill in the House of Representatives.

"I have also asked the government task force that handles the Sexual Violence Bill to immediately prepare a Problem Inventory List for the draft bill that is being prepared by the Indonesian Parliament", said President Jokowi.

As is known, the House of Representatives canceled the ratification of the TPKS Bill as an Initiative Rights of the House of Representatives based on the Plenary Session of the Closing of the Second Session Period on December 16, 2021.
