Megawati Again Attacked By Hoax News Of Death, PDIP Will Take Legal Steps
JAKARTA - PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto emphasized that information about the death of PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri was false news or hoaxes.
This was conveyed by Hasto in response to a video circulating on social media which stated that the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia had died. Hasto said that Megawati is now in good health, even though she had just communicated with him this morning.
"Mrs. Mega is in good health. This was before I came here, just arrived at Pasar Minggu, she called to come to Jalan Teuku Umar," said Hasto while attending the Rice Companion Culinary Festival in celebration of the 49th Anniversary of PDIP at the PDIP Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Friday, January 7th.
Hasto emphasized that his party is ready to take legal action regarding the emergence of the false news. The reason is that the perpetrators who spread the video are irresponsible and immoral.
"I decided as Secretary General that PDIP's legal assistance should be reported to law enforcement officers so that things like this don't need to happen again. Because we are a nation known for our culture because of our civilization," he said.
He regretted the spread of the false news. According to him, slander and spreading false news are not Indonesian culture.
"We are a nation that continues to fight for the values of truth and honesty as part of the positive values that shape this nation," he said.
For information, the spread of false news regarding the death of Megawati Soekarnoputri is not the first time this has happened. In April 2019, it was reported that Megawati was being treated at the hospital due to a stroke.
Next, in May 2020, Megawati again became a victim of the spread of false news. He is said to be on the wanted list (DPO) for allowing the COVID-19 virus to enter Indonesia.
