DKI COVID-19 Increases, Provincial Government Says Majority Of Cases Of Overseas Travelers

JAKARTA - The condition of COVID-19 in DKI Jakarta has increased significantly in the last few days. As of January 5, 995 active cases were recorded and daily cases increased by 259 cases.

Head of the DKI Health Office, Widyastuti, revealed that the majority of 661 active cases and 211 new cases in the capital were foreign travelers.

"It should be underlined, from this increase, 73 percent of active cases and 81 percent of daily new positive cases in Jakarta are foreign travelers", said Widyastuti in a statement, Wednesday, January 5.

Widyastuti said the foreign travelers who were confirmed positive were currently being treated at the Wisma Atlet Emergency COVID-19 Hospital (RSDC), Soelianti Saroso Hospital, and several other hospitals.

On the other hand, the percentage of occupied beds in hospitals treating COVID-19 has also increased. Of the total 3,879 isolation beds, 7 percent or 276 isolation patients were occupied.

Meanwhile, from a total of 647 ICU beds, 5 percent or 31 ICU patients were occupied. Along with the increase in the number of foreign travelers, the percentage of quarantine occupancy in several centralized quarantine places has now reached an average of 82 percent of the total existing capacity.

Widyastuti also said that his party was aware of the increase in cases of COVID-19, the Omicron variant, which was also increasing in Jakarta.

"We need to be aware of this contagion. The Omicron variant has also increased in Jakarta, from 251 infected people, 95 percent or 239 people are foreign travelers, while the other 12 are local transmissions", explained Widyastuti.
