Jokowi Urges The Draft Law On Sexual Violence To Be Passed Immediately
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged the Draft Law (RUU) on the Criminal Act of Sexual Violence (TPKS) which was discussed in the House of Representatives (DPR) to be ratified immediately.
This was conveyed through a video description that was shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.
"I hope that the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence will soon be passed so that it can provide maximum protection for victims of sexual violence in the country", said Jokowi.
According to him, this step is important to do so that the victims can be handled. Moreover, the process of forming the law has been in the DPR for quite a long time, namely since 2016.
To speed up this process, Jokowi then ordered the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly and the Minister for the Protection of Women and Children Empowerment (PPPA) I, Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, to communicate with the Indonesian House of Representatives.
This communication, he continued, is intended for coordination and consultation so that the draft law is immediately ratified by members of parliament.
"I have also asked the government task force that handles the TPKS Bill to immediately prepare a problem inventory list (DIM) for the draft Sexual Violence Bill which is being prepared by the Indonesian House of Representatives", said Jokowi.
