Toyota Creates Arene, New Operating System For Autonomous Cars In 2025

JAKARTA - Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. plans to launch its own operating system, which will be able to handle advanced operations such as autonomous driving.

According to a Nikkei report on Monday, December 3, this technology will be applied by the world's largest automaker to the vehicles they produce by 2025.

Toyota rated software has played an increasing role in vehicles. From managing electric motors and batteries to supporting functions such as autonomous driving, entertainment and navigation.

So far, Toyota has replaced these devices with other parties. Different things happen to Tesla which produces its own software for their electric car. Now Toyota doesn't want that mistake to be repeated and has started to build its own operating system, the Toyota Arene.

The Toyota Arene automotive software platform will compete with German rivals Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG. Volkswagen is currently working on the VW.OS software and Daimler plans to launch the Mercedes-Benz Operating System on its cars by 2024.

The Japanese automaker aims to put the operating system in its own vehicles by 2025, with plans to make it available to their affiliated manufacturers such as Subaru in the future.

According to a Nikkei report cited by Reuters, Toyota is currently considering licensing models to make the Arene available to other automakers and companies working on electric or autonomous driving cars. Toyota did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters about the Arene.
