Aceh Tamiang Floods, Thousands Of Residents Refuge
BANDA ACEH - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Aceh Tamiang Regency said 9,459 residents were displaced due to flooding in the district.
Head of BPBD Aceh Tamiang Syahri in Aceh Tamiang, Monday, said residents evacuated because their houses were flooded with a height of 30 centimeters to two meters.
"Thousands of these residents took refuge in higher places such as prayer rooms, mosques, roads, village or village halls and others," Syahri said, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.
He said the thousands of refugees in Karang Baru sub-district were 1,109 people from 359 families. Then, District Treasurer as many as 4,390 people from 2,195 families. Banda Mulia District has 55 people from 25 families.
"And Tenggulun District as many as 189 people from 63 families, and Kuala Simpang District as many as 3,716 people from 1,046 families," said Syahri.
Syahri said the Aceh Tamiang District BPBD team was still recording other flood-affected residents, such as Rantau District, Young Vocational District.
Then, said Syahri, in Seruway District, Manyak Panyed District, Sekerak District, Bandar Pusaka District, Tamiang Hulu District.
"The flooding that occurred in Aceh Tamiang Regency was due to high rainfall. BPBD officers continue to monitor flood levels and prepare evacuation points. We also urge the public to be aware of the potential for flooding," said Syahri.
