SURABAYA - Head of the East Java Health Service (Dinkes) Erwin Astha Triyonno confirmed that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 had entered East Java. The first case of Omicron was detected in a Surabaya resident with the initials TYC, who had just vacationed in Bali for 5 days.

"This TYC with her husband with the initials SJJ used a private vehicle on vacation. He was detected and confirmed by Omicron based on the results of the whole-genome sequencing (WGS) examination which was released on January 2, 2022," said Erwin, in Surabaya, Monday, January 3.

Erwin explained that while on vacation to tourist attractions in Bali, he always obeyed the PeduliLindungi application starting on December 20, 2021. However, after returning from his tourist trip on December 25, 2021, TYC felt like he had mucus in his throat.

On December 28, 2021, TYC checked herself into a hospital and was advised an RT-PCR swab. On the same day, TYC did an RT-PCR swab and the result was positive with a CT Value of 26.

After knowing the results of the TYC swab came out, her husband with the initials SJJ immediately did an RT-PCR swab and the results were negative," he said.

Then on December 30, 2021, the results of the S-gene Target Failure (SGTF) TYC was positive for the K417N (Delta Plus) variant and the Omicron Probable Variant. From there, TCY was directed to isolate at a hospital in Surabaya while waiting for the results of his WGS to come out.

Knowing this, the East Java Health Office coordinated with the Surabaya City Health Office (Surabaya Health Office) regarding the probable Omicron case, and then the Surabaya Health Office coordinated with the local health center.

Furthermore, the local health center carried out tracing by carrying out RT-PCR swabs on Close Contacts (KE) of TYC, namely in 1 household with a negative result, four families with one positive result (TGO) and three negative results, and 10 neighbors with a negative result.

Close contacts of TYC have been quarantined at home for 14 days since December 28, 2021, with the supervision of the puskesmas and the local COVID-19 Task Force.

Therefore, it is ensured that the implementation of health protocols (prokes) and quarantine in a disciplined manner. The TGO patient is self-isolating in a different house (different block) with other families.

"However, it is still under strict supervision by the puskesmas and the local COVID-19 Task Force. So far, TGO's condition is good and there are no complaints," he said.

On January 1, 2022, the Surabaya Health Office and the local puskesmas monitored the health condition of TYC who was still isolated in a hospital, with the result that he had no complaints and was in good condition. Then on January 2, 2022, the results of the WGS TYC examination were confirmed to be positive for the Omicron variant.

With the discovery of the Omicron case, the East Java Health Office coordinated with the Surabaya Health Office to carry out strict surveillance of cases according to the protocol for handling the Omicron variant.

The team also ensured that quarantine monitoring was carried out to the EC to completion and ensured the implementation of repeated swabs for all ECs identified by the RT-PCR method.
