PKS President Prediction: Within 10 Years Of Jokowi's Administration Inheriting Additional State Debt Of IDR 7 Thousand Trillion
JAKARTA - PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu estimates that the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inherit a state debt of more than IDR 7,000 trillion. The reason is, according to Syaikhu, the Government's debt as of September 2021 has reached a very large number, namely Rp. 6,711 trillion.
He said that economists had estimated that the Joko Widodo government would inherit the state debt to reach Rp. 10,000 trillion by the end of 2024. "This means that within 10 years the Joko Widodo administration will bequeath an additional state debt of more than Rp. 7,000 trillion," Syaikhu said in a statement quoted on Friday, December 31.
Syaikhu said that the fantastic state debt would be borne by the next president and would affect national development.
"Whoever the leader will be elected later in 2024, then they will inherit a huge debt burden. The large state debt will become an obstacle for the national development process in the future," he said. Syaikhu then mentioned the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). ) who often warns that the state's debt is increasingly vulnerable because it exceeds all standards set by international financial institutions. "Our country's financial risks are increasingly vulnerable if there is a turmoil in the economic crisis that befell Indonesia. Then the State Budget as a fiscal cushion will become fragile and weak," said Syaikhu.
According to Syaikhu, the issue of state debt is not only about fiscal sustainability and health, but also about intergenerational justice. The growing national debt, the principal and interest costs will be borne by future generations. "This raises the issue of fiscal injustice. The previous generation who are in debt but who pay and bear the burden are the younger generation in the future," said Syaikhu.
