Firli Bahuri: KPK Continues To Improve According To President Jokowi's Directives

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said his institution will continue to improve and make many breakthroughs in eradicating corruption according to President Joko Widodo's direction.

"According to President Joko Widodo's directives, the KPK always continues to improve itself, making many new breakthroughs that are in line with the current situation and condition of the country so that the handling of corruption will no longer cause noise that can disrupt the socio-economic ecosystem of the nation and state," said Firli, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 29.

This was conveyed when he gave a speech at the KPK Day of Service event for the country "Transformation and Contribution to the Country".

Firli said that with more fundamental methods and more basic and comprehensive efforts, the people could benefit from the goal of eradicating corruption.

According to him, the "asset recovery" approach, Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP), and mitigating corrupt behavior are other main things that the KPK will also do to deal with corruption.

Furthermore, Firli said the synergy between law enforcement agencies in the case of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) also continued to be carried out in applying money laundering charges through the Money Laundering Law (TPPU) and opening cooperation with other countries in the pursuit of corrupt assets.

In addition, Firli continued, community support for efforts to eradicate corruption continues to be used to instill an anti-corruption culture from an early age which is an important part of eradicating corruption so that an anti-corruption mentality is built and formed in every individual.

"Looking at the handling of past corruption, we have the view to always make breakthroughs and new innovations that are 'sustainable' in the transition towards a future Indonesia free from corruption," said Firli.

Firli also said that in the course of dealing with corruption, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) from the beginning realized that there were many expectations from the public, especially for certain cases that were in the public spotlight.

"However, the KPK cannot act according to public opinion, considering that we will act or take action based on legal facts and 'due process of law' procedures, law enforcement must not be carried out in violation of the law," he said.

The KPK also hopes for support from the community and prays for the KPK to be more professional and independent in carrying out its functions of building and harmonizing the corruption eradication orchestra for the entire system and institution in Indonesia.

"Let's welcome 2022 by actively participating in the corruption eradication orchestra led by President Joko Widodo to shift a new civilization and culture, namely anti-corruption civilization and culture so that this country can realize the ideals, dreams and hopes of advanced Indonesia, prosperous Indonesia, prosperous Indonesia, Indonesia is smart, Indonesia is safe and just for the whole nation and people of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke from Miangas to Rote Island," said Firli.
