Mahfud MD Believes The Presence Of The Supervisory Board Will Help The KPK Be Better

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said, with the presence of the KPK supervisory board (Dewas), there was a better hope in combating corruption in the future. Moreover, the position is filled with figures of integrity.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court admitted that he was worried when there was an issue of weakening the KPK through a revision of the law. Moreover, this has also become the decision of the DPR and the government.

"The government was already debating there. Then the Law was born. Yes, many were disappointed. But if we look at the latest developments there is hope for better," Mahfud said at a press conference "End of Year Reflections" in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 26. .

The hope that it is better to eradicate corruption lies in two things. First, said Mahfud, President Jokowi appointed a figure with integrity to sit in the chair of the KPK Dewas. They include Tumpak Panggabean, Albertina Ho, Syamsuddin Haris, Artidjo Alkostar and Harjono.

"It turns out that the people appointed by the President are people whose integrity is not at all in doubt. These are people who are very anti-corruption. Not only anti-corruption, but also clean in their experience of office," he said.

Second, he continued, every time there is a change in the leadership of a new KPK from the start, some circles will always doubt it. However, in fact that doubt is not correct. Then, he gave an example when Agus Rahardjo Cs was chosen to be the leader of an anti-graft agency there were parties who doubted him.

However, the fact is that Agus Rahardjo Cs' performance is actually very good and reaps appreciation. It is even defended when the issue of weakening the KPK is strengthened, accompanied by the revision of the Law on KPK.

Mahfud said he hoped that the composition of the KPK, which had been inaugurated at this time, could work better in eradicating corruption and could become a stronger institution.

"Now we have hope that with the current composition, hopefully the KPK, which consists of two layers, namely the commissioner and the adult, can become stronger," he said.
